Back-up rings without cutouts, preferably used in dynamic and static sealing of inner ring seals such as piston rods used with o-rings, star-rings, u-rings, especially when the o-ring is under high pressure and high temperature when deformation occurs. When retaining rings are used for outer ring sealing, open grooves are required. However, there is an exception for a retaining ring without a cutout, which can be installed in a closed outer ring sealing groove. Compared with the standard retaining ring, this special retaining ring has a different outer diameter and inner diameter. These rings can be supplied as per customer drawing if required.
Notched retaining rings are usually used with O-rings and U-rings in static, reciprocating outer ring seals. It is often used in two situations:1. A retaining ring without a cut cannot be installed into the groove;
2. It cannot be designed as an open groove. A notched retaining ring, the notch angle is 30° or 45° so that the o-ring can be protected.
Spiral retaining rings consist of two helical coils. The ends of the helical coils are cut at an angle. This retaining ring design can be used with O-rings for static, reciprocating inner and outer ring seals. The special advantage of this kind of spiral retaining ring in practical application is that when there is a huge temperature fluctuation, the spiral retaining ring can compensate for the change of dimensional tolerance through the helical extension and contraction without difficulty.
